Short Title 1

One of the first Europeans who visited the Angkor Wat was Antonio da Magdalena. A Portuguese monk who visited him in 1586, and later said that he has a unique architecture that is impossible to describe with pen and compare with any other building in the world. But despite this, Angkor Wat has become known in the West only in the mid 19 th century.

Short Title 2

The french researchers wrote that Angkor Wat can take the pride of place in with most beautiful buildings, and that is grander than anything we've seen in Greece in Rome, but it is a sad sight because of the barbaric destruction of which he was repeatedly subjected. The first Western scholars could not believe that the Khmers could build such and mistakenly dated it to about the same era, when Rome was built. The true history of Angkor wool was collected only from stylistic and epigraphic evidence accumulated during the subsequent research and restoration works carried out on all Angkor.

Short Title 3

The rebuilding of Angkor and Angkor Vata began to engage only in the 20 th century, most papers focused on archaeological work and the felling of the jungle absorbed most of the temples. But soon the work was interrupted due to the outbreak of civil war and the coming to power of the Khmer Rouge. During this period, did not suffer major damage, but was removed a huge number of statues. 

Today, Angkor Wat is a great pride for people of the country. Images of Angkor wool was part of every Cambodian flag since 1863. In January 2003, rioting broke out in Phnom Penh, when spread false rumors that a Thai opera actress argues that Angkor Wat belongs to Thailand.
