The Museum of landmines

The Museum of landmines (Landmine museum) was set up with local deminers Aki Ra (Aki Ra) in 1998, to familiarize local residents and tourists danger of land mines. The creator of the museum Aki Ra orphan in the early 80's at the age of 7 years was one of the Khmer Rouge, then fought in the Vietnamese army, and beginning in 1989, the Cambodian army. In 1995, he began clearing areas and in 1998 created a small educational center and museum. He works in Siem Reap, prvintsiyah Oddar, and Banteay Meanchey, but lately it's more likely work in Poipet, near the border with Thailand.

His work and all that he does for his country does not find great support from local authorities, who have tried many times to close the museum, on the pretext that he was afraid of tourists who travel to Cambodia, was subjected to persecution in matters of licensing and storage of weapons on the territory, accused of selling weapons and collecting it for use against the government.

But the museum is not closed, and we can see many photos, stories and heaps cleared of mines and unexploded ordnance collected in this museum. The museum mines of China, Russia, USA, Vietnam, Germany, produced from 1940 to 1970 and found in Cambodia. The devices were so stable that the mines remain in the combat state for decades.

The museum is located 6km south of Banteay Srei (Banteay Srey) and 31 km from Siem Ripa. Ticket price $

In 2007 the museum moved, so make sure that the driver did not bring you back to its place in a village near Angkor Wat.

The Military Museum (War Museum) is located near the national road number 6 in the direction of the airport of Siem Ripa. The museum contains a lot of military equipment from the recently passed a soldier, artillery pieces, various types of small arms and mines.

The museum is the Russian tanks, airplanes and helicopters that were transferred to Vietnam. Military Museum not so popular as a museum of landmines, but it may be more interesting for some people.
