Major temples in Cambodia.

The Temples of Angkor are perhaps both the spiritual and architectural fashoins of Cambodia. Easy to get to with car, bike or bus tour the temples are truly inspirational. Many, many years ago, the Cambodian god-kings, strove to top their ancestors in creativity and spirituality and thus, resulting in the world’s largest religious building. The perfect union of creative expression and spiritual devotion is what has created this, the heart and soul of Cambodia.

The temples of Angkor are a point of pilgrimage for today’s Cambodians, and a hold for them a sense of national pride and inspiration. No traveler to Cambodia will want to miss out on this spectacular sight.

Temple Phnom Bakheng.

Temple Phnom Bakheng located approximately 1,5 km from Angkor Wat. Phnom-Bakheng - one of the first temples built in Angkor.His building date from the time of King Yasovarmana I (889-910). The temple is a five-storied building with many towers and steps, leading upwards.

Phnom Bakheng first-served Mountain temple city of Angkor, along with the previous center Rolous. The capital was built on a long hill. Is an excellent view of the lonely hill of Angkor Watt, Angkor Thom and the surrounding areas. Best time to visit is late afternoon to see a spectacular sunset or early morning for sunrise at Angkor Wat.

Angkor Tom (Angkor Thom) is located 1,7 km north of Angkor Wat. This, if I may say so, the citadel of the city, its central part. The name "Angkor Thom means" Great City ". Agkor-Tom has been built at the time of Jayavarman VII (1181-1210) once in 1181 Angkor was taken and plundered chamami.

Ankgor Thom is surrounded by a ditch, a width of 100 m, and surrounded by a wall, which forms a square with sides of about 3 km.Wall height of about 8 m. The wall has five gates. In the southern gate towers, adorned with faces of Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara.Height of the tower is about 23 m.

Bayon Temple.

In the very center of Angkor Thom, is its main attraction - the temple of Bayon (Bayon). Afar Bayon looks as bizarre conglomeration of huge stones, but as they approached him, all clearly feel extraordinary beauty of the building. Bayon represent a three-level building, with the size of the base 140 m to 160 m. The central tower Bayona rises to a height of 45 m above the ground. In her Bayon decorate another 52 square towers, and on each side of all of these towers is depicted the image of Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. These towers are located on different levels and have different heights, so it seems that, wherever you are, these faces looking at you. (The height of 1,75 m to 2,40 meters) along the lower levels Bayona are galleries, decorated, as the gallery Angkor Wat, bas-reliefs depicting scenes from the life of the ancient Khmers. The total length of the bas-relief is about 1200 m.

Church Baphuon.

Temple Baphuon (Baphuon), located 200 m north-west of Bayona built in the middle of XI century, even before the construction of the Angkor Thom. In those days this was the center of the city.

In the eastern part of the front of the ditch is the so-called Terrace of the Elephants (Terrace of Elephants) 350 m. From this terrace Khmer kings watched the ceremony on the main square of Angkor Thom.In the center of the walled area is Haymenakas (Phimeanakas), which means "heavenly palace, former residence of the Khmer kings.
