Banteay Srei (Banteay Srey) is one of the most unusual temples of Angkor. It is located 20 km north-east of the main group of temples and 38 kilometers from Siem Ripa. Banteay Srei is built of red sandstone and is decorated with carvings. The buildings of the temples are very tiny compared to other churches that have made him extremely popular among tourists, and it is sometimes called the "jewel" or "jewel of Khmer art".

Banteay Srei was consecrated in 967, and is the only major temple, which was not built for the king, and was built by one of his advisers.
