Baksan Chamkrong
Baksan Chamkrong (Baksei Chamkrong)
A small Hindu temple with a height of 12 meters, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva, and was used to store his golden image. The temple can be seen from the left side and at the entrance to Angkor Thom by the south gate. Construction of the temple was completed Radzhendravarmanom II (944-968 BC). According to the inscription on the door, Radzhendravarman II consecrated the temple during the installation of the golden image of Shiva in the year 947.
Baksan Chamkrong means "bird refuge under the wings" and comes from the legend. In it the king tries to escape from the besieged enemy of Angkor, and then landed a huge bird, took him under his wing.
The temple is one of the first temples built of durable materials such as brick, laterite and sandstone finish. Most of the plaster of the temple collapsed. All the main floor, pillars and walls are decorated with fine carvings and inscriptions.
Beng Mealea (Beng Mealea)
The 12th century temple is located 40 kilometers to the east of the main group of temples of Angkor. The temple was built in the centre of the temple of Angkor Wat and it's name means "lotus pond.
It was built as induisky temple, but there are carvings and Buddhist themes. The temple is built of sandstone, it is not restored and many of its structures destroyed. For many years before the temple it was difficult to reach due to the absence of normal roads, but recently it has been built for the temple complex of Koh Ker and Beng passes near Mealea, resulting in a lot of tourists here.
On the histories of the temple Beng Mealea can be found in it's architectural style, which is identical to the temple of Angkor Wat. Therefore, many researchers suggest that it was built during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the early 12 th century. It is smaller than the size of Angkor Vata, the main monument to the king, but Beng Mealea among the large temples of Khmer Empire. Dimensions exterior wall of the temple 181 h152 m, and the moat surrounding the temple h875 1025 m and has a width of 45m.
Beng Mealea oriented to the east, but has the entrances and the other three directions. Around the central sanctuary were three galleries, but they are now collapsed. Cases related to "cross-shaped abode" as Angkor Wat. Known case library is on the right and left of the alley leading from the east. It survived a lot of carved figures from Hindu mythology.
In 1992, the temple was added to the list of World Heritage and taken under protection.
