He state form of government of Cambodia is a constitutional monarchy with a multiparty system. Under the constitution, which was adopted in 1993, the head of state is the king, who has no executive power, but deals with the appointment of the Government and the commander in chief of the armed forces. The monarchy in Cambodia, in contrast to most monarchies, not inherited and the king could not appoint a receiver, is engaged in the royal throne council elected a new king of the persons of royal blood.
Short Title 2From September 1993 to October 2004 the royal throne occupied Norodom Sihanouk, who had and has to date enormous prestige, respect in the country and has an influence on the government. Following the resignation of his office in late 2004, the King of Cambodia has taken the place of his son Norodom Sihamoni.
The Prime Minister is the official head of government, which appoints members of the Council of Ministers, holding appointments in the government as well as the head of the Council of Ministers is the executive power. Prime Minister since 1998 has Hun Sen, who also was the head of the Cambodian People Party (CPP)
Legislative power in Cambodia is the Parliament consisting of the lower and upper chamber and who is elected for 5 years, whose main task is the adoption and development of laws. Judicial power is exercised by judges of the Supreme Council.
