Koh Rong Sanloem Island is about 2-3 hours boat ride off the coast of Cambodia. There are many islands off the coast, and Koh Rong Sanloem is one of the most remote with one fishing village, and two small primitive places for visitors to stay. The water was quite rough that day with winds and some storms moving in. At different points the boat seemed like it was nearly perpendicular to the water. I definitely thought the boat was going to capsize. I held on to the life jacket as the boat was tossed from side to side twisting as waves and swells came towards us from the north as we headed west. After about 2 hours we rounded the southern tip of the island, and boated into protected waters with fishing boats dotting the coast. The water was calm, and I was finally able to enjoy the ride. The water was an amazing emerald-blue color with thick forest lining the island’s coast. We boated towards the shore of an empty white-sand beach. I could see the bungalows we would call home for the next 2 nights. It was the most beautiful place I had ever seen.
