East Barey is a huge artificial reservoir. Its dimensions are simply staggering  7 km x 1,8 km. East Barey was dug during the reign Yasovarmane I (889-910) to supply the city with water in the dry period. Similar reservoir, whose dimensions are 8 km x 2,3 km, is located to the west of Angkor. It is called West Barey.

Both reservoir fed by water Siam Reap River, which flows through Angkor. In the middle of each of these reservoirs is an artificial island on which stands a small temple  Mebon (Mebon). Currently, water is filled only a small part of the West Bar. East Barre completely dry. Between East Bar and Angkor Thom is a temple Ta Keo (Ta Keo). Ta Keo was built under King Yavarmane V (968-1001) and dedicated to Lord Shiva. Its central tower rises above the earth more than 50 m
