Banteay Meanchey (Banteay Meanchey) is a province in north-west of the Kingdom of Cambodia on the border with Thailand, the north-east, east and south surrounded by the provinces of Oddar Meanchey, Siem Reap and Battambang. Banteay Meanchey area is flat, only in the north-east there are small hills. Banteay Meanchey province consists of 8 districts: Mongkolborey, Pnomsrok, Preahnetpreah, Outryu, Sisophon Tmapuok, Svaytek, Malay from the town center administrativnys Sisomhon (Sisophon) (translated from Khmer "Fortress of Victory"). The main rivers Mongkolborey and Sisophon.

In the early 19th century Banteay Meanchey Province and the city of Sisophon belonged to Thailand, while in 1906, it was not transferred to the French Indochina and is now a part of Cambodia. In the 16 century was known as Sisophon Sray Saophan (Srey Saophoan) is translated from Khmer means "Beautiful Lady", it was a small area belonging to the province of Battambang. In the 17 century, Battambang and Siem Reap was captured by Siam, later known worldwide as Thailand, and have been renamed. When in the early 19 th century came the French imperialists, the Thais were forced to cede these provinces and they were returned to Cambodia. After the reign of "red kmerov" Battambang province was divided into two provinces of Battambang and Banteay Meanchey.
