Cambodia is home to more than 13,395,682 people (according to National Institute of Statistics of Cambodia in 2008), of which 48.6% of men and item 51.4% of women. About 60% of the population have not yet reached 21 years, all the result of years of civil wars, genocide and aggression by other countries. The massive destruction of the clergy and intellectuals have completely changed the social composition of the population.

The primary education in Cambodia, almost free of charge and is not more than $40 a year, but not all families can afford it, and children from an early age began to work alongside adults, so about 50% of the population does not receive primary education and higher education not available to many. But due to international programs and intergovernmental agreements, some Cambodians are able to receive higher education abroad, including in Russia.

The bulk of the population account for 90-93% Khmers (Cambodians), the remaining nations are so scarce that the most representative of them, and that Chinese and Vietnamese make up only 5% of the total population of Cambodia.

The Chinese ethnic group is the most numerous. From 1960 to 1970 there were over 420 thousand, but by the mid 80's, due to wars, persecution by the Khmer Rouge, and Vietnamese themselves, their number had decreased to 60 thousand people. Most of the Chinese involved in various kinds of trade, growing vegetables, fruit, black pepper, only a small part of them lives in coastal areas and is engaged in fishing.

Relations between Khmer and Chinese has always been and remain very good, mixed marriages are not uncommon and even considered that the Sino-Khmer elite essentially dominated the economy of Cambodia.

The second largest ethnic group is the Vietnamese, who number is over 200 thousand people. The relationship between the cameras and the Vietnamese are far from perfect, despite the fact that these people are neighbors, their little ties with religious and cultural terms, does not stop the controversy over the boundaries between these states and still fresh memories of the invading Vietnamese in Cambodia.
